It was my first stay in a hostel; my first visit 'abroad' and I brought back memories of an experience to be cherished for the rest of my life. I had heard stories of my father's family shifting from Pakistan to Srinagar and from there to Jammu each time India and Pakistan fought on the battlefield in the 1960s and 70s. Stories about where you belong to often entice you towards taking on journeys to trace your roots. As I stayed in Delhi all through my life, having grown up hearing that my father's family moved from Muzzafarabad, a visit to Pakistan would be a special one.
The mood is one of euphoria and pride as India becomes the second fastest growing major economy in the world, with a GDP growth rate of 9.2% at the end of the second quarter of 2006–2007. I am Indian and I am posting this article with my perception and experiences how I see the recent activities among both the nations. So, please pardon on some points I raised.
In the recent past, India and Pakistan have come a lot closer for the first time in the history, but as a common citizen of India, I have a fear that how long this peace will continue? For how much time our politicians will stick to their decisions? Certainly a hopeful sign and nice picture is portrayed but it takes just one drop of water to damage the whole scene. It will be a just a matter of word or action to make it worser than earlier, that is harmful for both nations and the citizens.
A touching Hindi poem about India and Pakistan, alongwith English translation. It is about peace and friendship. Indians and Pakistanis should forget what happened in the past and try to move ahead with a positive hope, so that both the countries achieve prosperity.
Sometime back, I was talking to one of my close friends in the US. The talk was about food, adjusting to the American life, finding friends, etc. This is where we hit upon the topic of Pakistan. Finding friends could be sometimes tricky, and with the tiny Asian population there, my friend said, Indians and Pakistanis lived like people from one nation.
We all are aware of the wars India and Pakistan have fought and the resulted destruction especially precious human lives. In the current information age, some battles are not only fought with guns and tanks but also through media, internet and pen. Since the advent of Information Technology among the masses of South Asia in mid 1990s, the pace of cyber wars between Pakistan and India have also been increased.
